A PUSH to have two significant Newcastle sites added to the National Heritage List has been initiated by Doug Lithgow, from the Parks and Playground Movement.

Newcastle City Council agreed last night to prepare an official nomination form for the Convict Lumber Yard, to the east of Newcastle railway station, and the Coal River Precinct, which is incorporated into the city's Harbour Foreshore Park and includes Fort Scratchley and Nobbys headland.

Both sites are recognised on the State Heritage Register but are not noted nationally.
