A P-PLATE driver caught doing 188 kmh in a 100 kmh zone at Belford, in the Hunter, lost his licence for three years when he appeared in Lithgow Local Court yesterday.

Dean Elwyn Ellingham, 18, a machine-fitting apprentice, of West Ryde, had pleaded guilty to driving a Mazda MX6 sedan dangerously on the New England Highway near Belford on December 20.

Ellingham pleaded guilty yesterday to subsequent charges of negligent driving and driving while his licence was suspended.

Magistrate George Zdenkowski fined Ellingham a total of $2000 and banned him from driving for three years.
